Along with the Combat Corps, direct recruitment is also done by the Indian Army in the Education Corps, Medical Corps, Technical Corps, Legal Corps etc. For recruitment in these corps, applications are invited by the Army from 12th pass to PG candidates by issuing advertisements from time to time. Of these, the recruitment of senior secondary (10+2) passed students in the Technical Corps of the Army is considered a good opportunity, through which permanent commission is given to the rank of lieutenant. Recruitment to the Technical Corps for (10+2) passed youths by the Indian Army is done through the Army Technical Entry Scheme (TES).

Army Technical Entry Scheme

Notification for recruitment under Technical Entry Scheme (TES) is issued by the Indian Army twice a year. A total of 180 candidates are selected every year through Army TES through both the process. Army TES Recruitment notification is usually released during the month of May/June and October/November. Under Army TES, the selected candidates are directly appointed to the rank of lieutenant after training.

Army Technical Entry Scheme Eligibility Criteria

  • For Army Technical Entry Scheme, candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics as subjects from a recognized board.
  • Along with this, the candidates must have secured a minimum of 70 percent in all these three subjects.
  • The candidate should be unmarried, their age should be between 16.5 years to 19.5 years as on 1st of the month and year of commencement of the course.

At present, Army has issued notice for Army Technical Entry Scheme (TES-45) through which candidates are to be selected for the course commencing in July 2021. This means that the age of the candidates should not be less than 16.5 years and not more than 19.5 years as on 1st July 2021.

Army Technical Entry Scheme – TES Selection Process

The selection process for the Army Technical Entry Scheme consists of shortlisting of applications, a two-stage interview and medical examination over five days to be conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

After shortlisting the applications of the candidates they are called for SSB interview. After five days of selection process the selected candidate is sent for training. The duration of training is 5 years, out of which one year Basic Military Training is imparted at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya.

Thereafter technical training of four years is given, out of which first three years at centers located at Pune, Mhow and Secunderabad and then Phase II training of 1 year. Engineering degree is awarded to candidates after successful technical training.

Army Technical Entry Scheme – TES Salary

Under the Army Technical Entry Scheme, a monthly stipend of Rs 21 thousand is given during training. After successful completion of training, permanent commission (appointment) is given to the rank of lieutenant in the army. Officers appointed as lieutenants are paid monthly salary as per Level 10 of 7th Pay Commission (Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500). Apart from this, military service pay i.e. MSP (Rs.15,500 per month) and many types of allowances and rations are given.
