Today, we’ll discuss about the PWD Engineer recruitment selection process.
How to Find PWD Engineer Job?
Engineers are directly recruited as Junior Engineers (Group B, Non-Gazetted) in the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) of the Central Government. Candidates appointed as Junior Engineers are promoted as per the terms and conditions of service as per the Central Public Works Department Junior Engineer (Civil and Electrical) Rules, 2003, Ministry of Urban Development. The employees appointed as Junior Engineers in CPWD are given opportunity to work in Assistant Engineer, Executive Engineer and other senior posts after promotion.
PWD Engineer Qualification Eligibility
CPWD Engineers are directly recruited as Junior Engineers through Junior Engineer (JE) Recruitment Examination conducted every year by SSC. As per the SSC JE Exam notification, candidates must have done graduation in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university or any other higher education institution to appear in the exam.
Candidates having three years diploma in these trades and two years experience of related work are also eligible to apply. In addition, the age of the candidates should not exceed 32 years as on January 1 in the year of examination.
Candidates belonging to reserved categories are also given relaxation in upper age limit as per government rules. Which is 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC ST, 10 years for Divyang. For more details refer SSC JE 2020 notification.

PWD Engineer Selection Process
According to the notice of SSC, the selection of candidates for the posts of JE in CPWD is done on the basis of written examination (Paper 1 and then Paper 2) and document verification. Paper 1 is of objective type having 2 hours duration and consists of questions from General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, related engineering trade.
Successful candidates in Paper 1 have to appear in Paper 2. Paper 2 is a comprehensive answer type written examination consisting of questions from the respective trade and its duration is 2 hours. Successful candidates in Paper 2 are invited for document verification.
Thereafter, the final selection list is released by the commission according to the preference of the candidates and the number of vacancies. Candidates appointed as Junior Engineers in CPWD get promoted and work on senior posts.
PWD Engineer Salary Structure
Employees appointed as JEs in CPWD are paid monthly salary as per Pay Matrix Level 6 (Rs 35,400 – 1,12,400) of 7th Pay Commission. Apart from this, allowances and other benefits given to the central government employees are also given.
